Writing Workshops
Sarah Getty has taught creative writing for more than 30 years—at the college level, as a poet-in-the-schools, and in workshops sponsored by the Bedford Public Library and the Bedford Center for the Arts. She is currently offering private workshops for writers of poetry, fiction and memoir. In addition to her regular workshops, she offers sessions tailored to the needs and experience level of writers' groups who are looking for professional feedback.

In a statement about her approach to teaching, she says:
"I most enjoy helping people turn their own experience into pieces of writing that communicate vividly and have emotional impact. My aim is to help students discover their own writing voice, trust themselves as writers, and learn ways to develop writing skills on their own. To do this I use reading and writing assignments, in-class exercises, and gentle critiquing that includes peer review and editing."

Coaching and Editing
Ms. Getty also offers one-on-one coaching, manuscript critiques, editing services, and advice for writers who are ready to submit their work for publication.

"I'm in awe at the quality of the writing and the serious work that is going into these assignments! Sarah, you're doing a great job!"

--Jerry Christen, Chair, Bedford Center for the Arts

"If the intent of the workshop is to help people find 'their writer's voice,' then maybe I'm on the right track, slowly, but less unsurely, and I love the process. Thanks for the energy and enthusiasm you bring to the workshop."

--Pat Sullivan, workshop student, Winter 2002
